About Genius Gems — STEM play spaces in Millburn, NJ & NYC
About Genius Gems
Create Together. Connect forever.
How it started
In 2013, founder Jennifer Romanoff, Ed.M., watched her husband and two boys building with magnetic tiles — and joked that he'd be late for work again unless he quit his job to play with tiles instead. They both had a good laugh. And that is how Genius Gems was born.
The first Genius Gems opened in Millburn, NJ in May 2018. Our NYC flagship followed in February 2023 — nearly twice the size, with a pizza café, Glow in the Dark Room, Design Bar, and 3D Print Lab.
Play, Celebrate, Learn
Our spaces are built around the 4 P's — projects, passion, peers, and play — inspired by MIT Media Lab professor Mitchell Resnick.
- Play — Drop in any day and build with the largest magnetic tile collection anywhere. The tiles work for young kids, for sixth graders, and even for grown-ups. Date Night Drop-Off hands you an evening out while they build, eat pizza and play.
- Celebrate — Birthday parties built around the tiles, with the room, the host and the setup handled for you. Private evenings and grown-up events too.
- Learn — After-school STEM classes, summer camp and mini camps for your child; field trips and scout badge workshops for schools and troops. All of it built on the 4 P's — projects, passion, peers and play — from MIT Media Lab professor Mitchell Resnick.
