About Genius Gems

How it started
In 2013, founder Jennifer Romanoff, Ed.M., watched her husband and two boys building with magnetic tiles — and joked that he'd be late for work again unless he quit his job to play with tiles instead. They both had a good laugh. And that is how Genius Gems was born.
The first Genius Gems opened in Millburn, NJ in May 2018. Our NYC flagship followed in February 2023 — nearly twice the size, with a pizza café, Glow in the Dark Room, Design Bar, and 3D Print Lab.
Learning through play
Our spaces are built around the 4 P's — projects, passion, peers, and play — inspired by MIT Media Lab professor Mitchell Resnick. Fun and learning have always gone hand in hand at Genius Gems, and they always will.
